I completely agree that this process has been more than fair for all members involved. This seems like a lot of "catering" to people who can't be bothered to check this forum and again at the meeting on May 9th. What are the odds that the people who have issues with this will actually be at the meeting??? Everyone who attends the meeting and
keepsan eye on this website will have to wait for the "winners" to decide what they want to do and hope for the best in collecting the money from them. Seems backwards to me, as everyone has had lots of time to be made aware of this!

Careful -not everyone who wants to attend meetings can. My work schedule means I'm never able to attend meetings; that doesn't mean that I don't want to. I also can't normally race any of the Saturday races due to work commitments either -and I certainly want to be there !

And while I personally agree that members should be checking the website/forum regularly, the fact of the matter is that we take money from people and we have an obligation to inform them of what's going on in their club. Right now, our membership paperwork states that we will communicate with them via email (it used to say telephone ! I've spent more than a few evenings phoning the club membership to advise them of meetings in years gone by).

So if we want to make it the members' responsibility to check the website, we can do that but we have to tell them that when they join. Until then, we cannot rightfully do things that affect the membership in any substantial way without informing them first.

My two cents,

Being relatively new to karting and after saving up money for a kart, supplies, suits, membership etc. I was very happy to attend a membership meeting. All seem extremely organized and the flow of the meeting was great. I was smiling and very impressed with the club I was joining. Then this pit stall talk! I had no idea what all the controversy is about. It was clearly very polarizing to the three ladies running the club and the two or three guys running the members.
As a newbie I decided to read as much as I could about this issue just to see if I could make any sense of it all. Honestly, after reading and listening to all the issues surrounding paid pit stalls, it makes me question my involvement in attending future meetings.
Clearly several members had a great idea and ran with it. The only issue I saw was that it looked like only a few members knew about it. A gentleman at the back suggested an auction for the best spots that seemed like a great idea but no one paid any attention to him. There was a letter from the board leading up to meeting suggesting a different process involving all the members but that wasn’t even voted on? Why?
It seemed like a couple guys hijacked a vote and bullied their way through it. The ladies running the meeting were ignored at this stage and a vote was held. Where are the bylaws of this club? I haven’t found them on the web site but obviously there needs to be some revisions, unless this is how CKRC is run.
This vote was argued by Casey under the pretense of raising money for the club and to respect all the hard work of the member who’s idea it was. After the vote it was clear that this issue was more about getting the most desirable pit stalls and getting their own way than raising money for the club. As demonstrated when Casey turned down an offer to make even more money by giving up his spot. As for respect to a volunteer, no respect was shown to the volunteer Club President last night.
What I found to be unacceptable was the verbal abuse and lack of respect shown her during the meeting. To bring someone to tears because of this issue or an illness is the most disgraceful behavior I can think of. That type of bulling is reason for expulsion from almost any other organization I can think of. The childish comments on the forum, the derogatory emails to the President and the bullying in the meeting last night is completely unacceptable.

To the members of the club, is this how you treat your volunteers? Is this how this club makes decisions? I respectfully ask responses from the quiet majority. I need to decide if this is a club I wish to belong to ……….

It was definitely disappointing to hear of personal attacks to our executive. Volunteering is imperative for this club to survive, and it is an embarrassment that any volunteer for our organization should ever be subjected to the kind of treatment we heard about last night.

It was an emotional meeting, and definitely does not represent the way most meetings tend to go. That is my opinion based on being a member for a little over a year and attending the majority of meetings. Our executive does an awesome job that consumes a lot of hours, and it is unfortunate things came to what they did. That is a huge reason why I volunteered to act as the liason between the executive and the members. I think many lessons will be learned from the meeting, and I hope it makes us all better in the future.

If you want to get a true feel for what the club is all about, come out to Saturday's race and I think you'll come away with a different opinion. Having been active in competitive sports all my life, I've never met a more helpful and welcoming group than the CKRC members.

Like Steve, I have been a member for just over a year and have had great experiences in dealings with other club members. As a rookie crew chief for a rookie Jr 1 driver doing test and tunes last year I received an enormous amount of friendly help and advice from many other club members, often getting assistance from people who, despite being busy with their own karts, found time to sort out problems for me. We had our first race recently and the support from competitors and race officials, for myself and for my Jr 1 driver, was fantastic.

My experience as volunteer (marshalling etc.) has also been excellent. I think perhaps the club executive gets a rougher ride than other volunteers. This is not warranted. We should respect and appreciate the effort and time the executive puts into our club. Last night's meeting was an anomaly in my experience, I hope and expect it to remain so.

Keeping things on a Positive note, with John's efforts to date, the club has been able to reserve 142 squares with the additions last night. This effort has been able to raise a significant amount of money for the club:

$35 x 142 = $4970 + GST and growing???

This is a great windfall for the club and a great way to support our fundraising efforts.

To clarify one earlier comment, I did receive an offer last night from another member asking to take my spaces at a premium. We discussed an amount, and the member was going to think about it and let me know. If the member decides to take all 9 spaces we will move ahead, and I will be relocating and adding to the totals.

What an amazing day at the track yesterday!! Well done to everyone involved.

Only suggestion......

Seriously the pit stalls? are you kinding me?

You have all the non-payers isolated and jammed in with the bike club, then someone goes around telling those people to move there trucks even farther away.

At the same time the paid stalls have a dozen cars and trucks sit at the front on empty pit stalls. I award the goofy award to that!

Why would someone buy a spot and not even use it?

Just a suggestion ... fix that!

Racing looked amazing though, keep that up!!!!

Yesterday was the first day of "organized" reserved pit stalls.
Like anything new, some adjustment is needed to get used to the new system and work out the bugs.

The big empty spot in the middle was totally unexpected and upon review, the rule of holding your reserved spot until 10am seems unrealistic given yesterdays experience. 8:30am has been suggested as a better time and is in line with when registration closes.
